The silence of the shepherds

On 26 January 2024, in the proceedings initiated by South Africa, the International Court of Justice noted in No. 85, a point that has been “overlooked” with much rhetorical effort by all those who advocate for an immediate ceasefire out of self-interest:

ICJ 26.01.2024 N° 85. The Court deems it necessary to emphasise that all parties involved in the conflict in Gaza are bound by international humanitarian law. It is deeply concerned about the fate of the hostages who were abducted during the attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 and have been held by Hamas and other armed groups ever since, and calls for their immediate and unconditional release.

The fact that both the American President and the French President, in view of their electoral position and the upcoming elections, are treating the issue of the hostage release as a secondary issue shows the double standards in the question of the enforcement of Western values, above all, equal human dignity for women and men.

When a pregnancy is the result of a crime committed by a terrorist who has previously murdered her relatives and brutally raped her, the emotional consequences for the women concerned are unimaginable and leave lasting psychological scars.

According to sources, the MAARIV newspaper, there have been extensive discussions in hospitals across the country about preparing for the return of Israeli hostages who have been sexually abused by Hamas terrorists and are in various stages of pregnancy. Doctors, psychologists, rabbis . . . there is no relevant professional group in Israel that excludes itself from the search for solutions and counselling strategies.

Under Israeli law, abortions are permitted, with women being granted the autonomy to decide for themselves how they wish to proceed. However, the state is now faced with the daunting task of dealing with the ongoing trauma that will affect the victims and their families for the rest of their lives.

The film footage produced by the Hamas terrorists themselves of their attacks, their murder of civilians and their rape of women, sometimes in front of their families, was a deliberate demonstration of power. The display of their victims as their prey was also a deliberate demonstration of power.

On 7 July 2024, it will be nine months since the Hamas massacre. Young women are still among the 136 hostages still being held by Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip, despite the judgement of the International Court of Justice.

Outside of Israel or the Jewish communities in Europe, Canada and the USA, these crimes do not attract the attention of the famous campaigners of the MeToo movement. They have not spoken out any more than the pro-life movements of anti-abortion activists or the Catholic Church, whose shared communication skills or philosophical, theological, ethical and gynaecological expertise cannot be doubted or denied.

Reports from 7 October indicate that the terrorists committed heinous rapes, confirmed by the testimonies of some of the returned hostages, which show that the women were subjected to sexual harassment, including multiple rapes, during their captivity.

This has led gynaecologists in internal discussions in recent weeks to assess that prisoners have been raped and have been pregnant for several weeks. – Pregnancies on 7 October 2023 or the week after naturally come to an end around 7 July 2024.

We also hear as little about this from the famous campaigners of the MeToo movement, such as Michelle Obama or Angelina Jolie or the human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, who advised South Africa on the lawsuit against Israel, as we do from pro-life movements of anti-abortion activists or from the Catholic Church in the spirit of the encyclical “Amoris Laetitia”. – The silence of the shepherds prevails.

Even from pro-abortion advocates who claim to stand up for the dignity and right to self-determination of women, no public and emphatic demand for the release of women can be heard or read. –

Reminder: ICJ 26.01.2024 N° 85. The Court considers it necessary to emphasise that all parties to the conflict in Gaza are bound by international humanitarian law. It is deeply concerned about the fate of the hostages who were abducted during the attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 and have been held by Hamas and other armed groups ever since, and calls for their immediate and unconditional release.

It begs the thought that the imprisoned Israeli women are left alone with the question and undeniable consequences of an abortion as well as the consequences of a forced pregnancy.

Who cares about the dilemma of the mothers against their will? The children conceived through the rapes are genetically their own children, but at the same time they are also children of the family’s murderer or of the child’s mother’s husband by marriage.

Doctors prepare for the scenario

Teams of gynaecologists in medical centres across the country have already appointed specialists to prepare for such a catastrophic scenario. The doctors emphasised that the medical aspect is based on established protocols for abortion. However, Israel must now deal with the most difficult element: the serious psychological impact on a trapped woman who has become pregnant.

“It is difficult for the human brain to comprehend the situation of a captive woman who has to cope not only with the pregnancy, but also with the fact that she was conceived as a result of being brutally raped by a murderous terrorist,” said Prof Tal Biron- Shental, Chairperson and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba.

“Performing an abortion is a procedure we are all familiar with and have mastered. However, the biggest challenge the state faces now is the terrible and disheartening psychological trauma. A pregnant woman who feels the movements of the foetus and has a visibly growing belly is naturally attached to the foetus.

But if the pregnancy is the result of a terrorist who previously murdered her relatives and brutally raped her, the emotional consequences are unimaginable. They will leave lasting psychological scars on the woman and her family for years.”

The Silence make the situation worse

From 7 July 2024 on, another scenario becomes increasingly possible: The terrorists jubilantly executed sadistic barbarity is sufficiently well known due to their own film documentation. – The denial by European or US media is irrelevant to the documented and historically relevant facts.

Due to the complete absence of the International Red Cross and after the infiltration and instrumentalization of UNRWA by Hamas, there have been no visits to the hostages, no medical care or investigation for nine months. No international organisation, not even the Catholic Church in Gaza or the West Bank, has sought information about how many hostages are still alive and what their state of health is.

7 July 2024, nine months after the hostage-takings and after the first rapes, raises a new question: When the children are born, will they be allowed to stay with their mothers ? Or will they be separated from their mothers?

Since Russia abducted 20,000 children from the eastern parts of Ukraine from 2022 onwards, distributed them across Russia and organised their adoption by Russian parents, this question has to be be raised. TH
